NARS INTRODUCES THE FALL 2011 COLOR COLLECTION

The Fall 2011 campaign was designed and photographed by NARS Founder and
Creative Director François Nars. Under his supervision, makeup artist Diane Kendal
created the season’s look on model Mariacarla Boscono. The Italian beauty was
chosen for her sophistication and chameleon-like ability to become the character she
is made up to portray.

Diane began by creating an immaculate complexion, applying Siberia Sheer Matte
Foundation to the center of the face with her fingertips, blending outward, and setting
with Snow Loose Powder. To add contour to the cheeks, she brushed Oasis Blush
just below the cheekbone and blended the color toward the temple.
Mariacarla’s eyelids were prepped with PRO-PRIME Smudge Proof Eyeshadow
Base, blending with a fingertip for a fresh finish. Diane then applied Outremer Single
Eyeshadow to the lid, layering the color to build intensity. To create a winged effect,
she extended the color to the inner corner of the eye and up along the outer corner
toward the brow bone. Next, she swept the sheer white side of Pandora Duo
Eyeshadow on the brow bone, blending it softly into the bold blue hue. She lined the
upper lash line with Rue Saint-Honoré Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner Pencil
and the lower lash line with Rue Bonaparte Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner
Pencil to open the eyes. The silvery taupe shade of Grand Palais Duo Eyeshadow
was blended along the lower lash line, extending the color into the inner corner of the
eye. Brows were defined with Bali Single Eyeshadow, and lashes were curled and
finished with two coats of Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara.
Lastly, Diane lined and filled the lips with Fantasia Lipliner Pencil—blending with a finger
to soften the color—followed by Striptease Lip Gloss topped with Pago Pago Lipstick.

The Fall 2011 collection is resolutely avant-garde. Daring shots of color are
tempered with softer, subtler tones. Eyes range from bright true blue to silvery
taupe, dazzling peach and matte dove gray. Lips run the gamut from statementmaking
matte red to sophisticated plum and sparkling champagne pink.
A stormy gray nail color adds a mysterious finishing touch. The effect is
confident, edgy and intense.

OUTREMER - $23
French for “overseas,” the richly pigmented single eyeshadow—a bold blue
hue—allows for a range of stunning eye effects, from soft and sheer to intense
and fashion-forward.

GRAND PALAIS - $33 (LE)
Named for the Parisian exhibition hall and museum complex near the Champs
Elysées, this silvery taupe and dusty rose duo eyeshadow is a universally flattering, neutral palette. Wear each shade solo or layered for myriad soft effects.

Delphes - $45 (LE)
The rich history of Delphi, Greece, the place of worship of the god Apollo,
inspired this trio eyeshadow, which combines a sparkling sheer peach with a
matte dove gray and a frosted sage. Wear each shade alone or experiment with
combinations of two and three shades for a truly devotional look.

OASIS - $24 (LE)
The perfect complement to a bold eye, this sparkling pink-champagne lip gloss
works equally well alone or layered over lip color for a more nuanced look with
pumped-up shine.

TRAIN BLEU - $24
This deep aubergine velvet matte lip pencil is as opulent as the infamous French
night express train for which it’s named.

PAGO PAGO - $24
Named for the capital city of American Samoa in the South Pacific, this petalpink
shimmering sheer lipstick delivers gentle color reminiscent of the islands.

MONTEGO BAY - $25
Laced with moisturizing wild mango butter, this versatile rose-pink pure matte
lipstick glides on with ease while delivering an ultra-matte finish.

MASCATE - $25
The French name for the capital city of Oman, located on the Arabian Sea, this
true red pure matte lipstick is both mysterious and dramatic.

GALION - $17 (LE)
This deep gray nail polish creates a luxe smoky look.

Q&A WITH FRANÇOIS NARS
What’s the mood for Fall 2011?
Confident, fashion-forward and graphic. Fall is the perfect time to play with
dramatic shades, bold color and rich textures, like a bright blue eye or a stormy
gray nail.

Why was Mariacarla Boscono chosen for the Fall 2011 campaign?
Mariacarla is extremely sophisticated, with a dramatic face. I love the way she
looks: her dark hair, pale skin and flamboyant personality. She is incredibly
photogenic, and you can transform her while still allowing her personality to
come across on film. It was great to dress her up in black and play off her pale
skin with blue eyeshadow and pale-pink lips for a graphic look.

What are your favorite color combinations for Fall 2011?
I like the look of a bright blue eye and a pale pink lip, achieved with Outremer
Eyeshadow and Pago Pago Lipstick. It’s striking and modern. Train Bleu Velvet
Matte Lip Pencil is perfect for a deep aubergine lip to complement the softer
colors of the Trio Eyeshadow. Galion Nail Polish is dark and moody and lends
edginess to any look.
