Bumble and bumble SURF SPRAY Review & Photos

Back in high school (the 90's) big, curly hair was IN. My hair was as uncooperative as ever. I was a majorette in high school as well as a competitive baton twirler, solo and in groups. I went on to also twirl baton in college. All of these required big hair. I tried EVERYTHING. Perms, steam rollers, sleeping in rollers... My hair has a natural wave and frizz.. so what was the problem that even a PERM wouldn't hold???

All these years later, there is a solution. Bumble and bumble Surf Spray.

I had heard the stories about beautiful beachy hair and luscious waves... whatever. My hair doesn't do that. With Surf Spray it does! If you check out this FOTD post, you can see the curl my hair got.

From the Sephora website:
What it is:
A saltwater-based styling spray.

What it does:
This styling spray adds volume and texture to the hair to create a sexy, wind-blown feel. Its salt-infused formula adds fullness, hold, and a cool, matte finish. Salt water is no secret to editorial stylists for adding volume and texture, and anyone who has been in the ocean knows of that salty, sexy, sun-dried, wind-styled feel (that seems such a shame to wash out). So while Bumble and bumble hasn't exactly bottled the real thing, they've replicated and improved it, including seaweed and kelp extracts to enhance moisture.

What else you need to know:
Excellent for wavy types and landlocked surfers with winter blues, this spray adds body to fine hair and adds a nice texture for silver hair.

I've been using this for about a week, in case the first time was a fluke, and I assure you... it's not a fluke. I get out of the shower, brush my hair and apply the Surf Spray first by flipping my head over and getting the underside, then by flipping back up and spraying the tops. After that, I let the air do its work. Within an hour my hair is mostly dry with pretty curls. It's PERFECT for these recent early mornings during the week where I have to run my son up to camp and not look like Medusa. My hair stays curled and soft throughout the day. This will NOT leave your hair stiff and crunchy like hair spray does.

The only thing I dislike is that I feel like I use quite a bit each time I apply, and that it won't last me as long as I'd like it to. For $23... I expect to be able to use it as long as I would a normal hair spray.

You can purchase Bumble and bumble Surf Spray at Sephora for $23 (or $22 at Amazon). I've seen Bumble and bumble travel size items at my local Rite Aid, but to my knowledge this item doesn't come in travel size form. However, maybe Rite Aid is going to carry the full line in the future? Anyone know?

Living Proof STRAIGHT SPRAY Review & Photos

Living Proof has always been one of my go to hair brands. My hair is horribly temperamental. Throughout my life I've struggled with frizz and flyaways, especially in the summer or when I would work out and sweat. I used to be a competitive baton twirler and dancer, and you don't even want to know what I had to do to my hair to keep it back. I owned stock in bobby pins and hairspray.

When Living Proof hit the scene I was well out of my glory years, but still had the same issues with frizz. I immediately purchased their No Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner as well as their Straight Making No Frizz Styling Cream for Medium to Thick Hair. The Gods sang and my hair was tamed. (Sidenote - a good drugstore dupe is the Tresemme Smooth & Silky, but when I know that I am going somewhere nice, or out and not just hanging around town or the house, I'll use the Living Proof system.)

Regardless if I use the Tresemme or Living Proof I ALWAYS use the Straight Making No Frizz Styling Cream. It's a necessity. So when Living Proof came out with the Straight SPRAY, I was all over it. I'm always looking for products that make my life easier. I have 2 active children, and especially with summer camp starting up I need to be able to do my hair quickly.

From the Sephora.com website:
Straight Spray
What it is:
A styling spray that extends the life of straight styles.

What it does:
Straight creates sleek, smooth, shiny straight hair without the use of oils, resins or silicones. The lightweight formula can be reapplied to wet hair or dry hair extending your style for days. Straight won't build up, repels dirt, and helps to protect against heat styling.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petrochemicals
- Phthalates
- GMOs
- Triclosan

What else you need to know:
Straight contains aerosolized PolyfluoroEster, Living Proof's breakthrough molecule. It creates a weightless shield effectively preventing water from entering the hair shaft and disrupting your straight style. The result is straight hair that lasts for days.

The Living Proof Straight Spray DOES extend your style. My hair tends to get SUPER greasy by the next day, but with this product in it, it did not. It actually made my hair easier to style as well. As I dried my hair it stayed where I needed it to and fell nicely. I also didn't need to brush it as much. My hair was in MAJOR need of a haircut when I first started my trial of this product and the Straight Spray made it look amazing every time. I found that I still needed to use this product in conjunction with the Straight Making No Frizz Styling Cream, but not with the Shampoo and Conditioner. HUGE PLUS - it's not sticky at all, like you'd get from a regular hairspray.

The TRUE challenge test came when I shot this FOTD for a bachlorette party that I went to. Sweaty, hot, CLUBBIN' test. I'll spare you the end of the night shots ;) but lets just say I woke up the next morning and my hair still looked awesome.

I just love how perfect, and fine the Straight Spray had my hair looking. I'm probably over excited because I've never found a product that will tame my crazy Italian girl hair lol (PSA time - that GORGEOUS hair pin I'm wearing was made by Tracey at GingerKitty Designs using China Glaze Atlantis nail polish!)

Living Proof Straight Spray retails for $17 (for the travel size) to $29 and you can pick it up at Sephora.

Follow Living Proof on Twitter & Facebook for updates on their products, or visit their website.

Neutral FOTD

Happy Sunday, lovelies!

I just wanted to pop in to show off the new hair! I got it cut REALLY short (for me anyway) and this morning I tried a new hair color.

I always use L'Oreal Preference to combat those stubborn EVIL grays that pop up on my way too young head. I used to use 4AR (Dark Brown - Warmer) but never liked the reddish cast it left on my head. While getting my hair cut on Tuesday I asked my hairdresser why it was doing that. She said it was because I was using a warmer color, and to try something that says neutral or natural. I went to Rite-Aid and bought 4 (Dark Brown - Neutral). WOW is it dark lol I think next time I'll go for just a brown. This may just be too dark for me.

The beauty of the cut, though, is that I can't pull it back. So I HAVE to dry it after the shower. It's forcing me to stop being lazy with my hair!

Onto the face! I had no intention of doing my makeup today, but we may have visitors later and I wouldn't want to scare them silly with a bare face. If I could switch up anything on my face it would be the lip. I think I would have rather gone with something a little more peachy. Apparently English Accents, while gorgeous, isn't as pinky as I thought!!
