MAC Silver Skates Technakohl Liner Swatches and Review - Glitter and Ice Holiday 2011

This year, with the Glitter and Ice Holiday Collection, MAC released 6 specially packaged and limited edition Technakohl Liners.  I'm excited to share Silver Skates with you today!

What the MAC Website has to say about Glitter and Ice Technakohl Liner:
With this winning streak of high-style colour, glamour leaps ahead.  Six dramatic go-for-gold shades including new ultra cool silver.  Line or blend.  Glitter & Ice's dashing white and silver makes this an absolute prize.  Limited Edition.
0.35 g / 0.012 US oz

I don't have a ton of experience with the MAC Technakohl Liners, but I found Silver Skates (silver with pearl) to be rather sheer.  For the swatch above I REALLY colored and layered on both.  I thought it was creamy and easy to use, but just provided very little color.  I used it on this EOTD and thought it was nice to add shimmer under the eye and as a base for a deep shadow liner.

MAC Glitter and Ice Technakohl Liners retail for $16.00 each.  They are limited edition with the Glitter and Ice Holiday 2011 Collection.  As of this post, Silver Skates is still available on the MAC Website.

MAC 6 Snowglobe Eye Shadows COOL Swatches, Review, and EOTD - Ice Parade Holiday 2011

Late to the game!  I have for you the MAC 6 Snowglobe Eye Shadows/Cool - which includes the shades Snowball (Frost), Illegal Cargo (Frost), Idol Eyes (Lustre), Warm & Smoky (Veluxe Pearl), Howzat (Satin), and Set to Dance (Matte).

From the MAC Website:
Shake it up! Cool reigns. Frost and smoke, grey and blue, mingle in this sextet of six high contrast shades. Their stunning showcase: our silver-domed snowglobe compact with white mini brush. Limited edition.

(L-R: Snowball, Idol Eyes, Howzat, Illegal Cargo, Warm and Smoky, Set to Dance)

I was really taken aback by this palette.  6 Snowglobe Eye Shadows/Cool has gotten some really negative reviews.  Other than Idol Eyes (which is a temperamental Lustre), I found them all nice to swatch and easy to get color payoff from.  The swatches above were done with no base.

Snowball - is a frosty white with a tone of blue in it when you arc it a certain way.  It's a very interesting shade and worked easily in my EOTD as a bright pop in the inner corner and lightly above the crease.

Idol Eyes - a light purple and sparkly devil lustre.  I made it work, you'll see ;)

Howzat - is a very smooth satin grey

Illegal Cargo - is a really pretty light purple, which was released previously with Naughty Nauticals.  I loved it then and I love it now!  So glad to see it back!

Warm & Smoky - is my fave shade from this palette.  It's this purple with blue flash AND it's a Veluxe Pearl.

Set to Dance - is a blackened navy matte, which actually is really stunning.  It was SO easy to use.  Normally I find mattes to be way too dry, but this one was just right.

I had a ton of fall out when I used this palette, but that is easily remedied if you do your eye makeup before your face makeup, which most people likely do anyway.

The packaging is adorable.  The white plastic casing features a snowglobe top that my kids are insane for (luckily, these palettes are more durable than they appear).

Overall, this is a fabulous palette and a great deal.  You get 6 shadows and a mini brush in a snowglobe palette your kids will love... all for only $38.  If you love some smoky blues/purples/greys - this is right up your alley.

When I did my EOTD I was even impressed with Idol Eyes, which, if you've been keeping up with the blog, you know I loathe Lustre shadows more than any makeup product ever invented.  I don't know if it was because I used it over a paint pot, but it looked amazing and went on easier than any Lustre I've ever tried to become friends with.

For this EOTD I used UDPP as a base and then layered MAC Morning Frost Paint Pot over that all over the lid and up to the brow.  First, I took a 239 brush and dabbed Idol Eyes all over the lid.  Then, using a 219 I deposited Warm & Smoky into and above the crease.  Using the same 239 I had used before I dabbed some more Warm & Smoky into the outer V.  Reaching for  the same 219 I mixed Warm & Smoky with a bit of Set to Dance to deepen the outer crease and outer V.  Using a 275 I applied Snowball to the inner corners and above the crease color.  For a liner, I used MAC Silver Skates Technakohl Liner  and took the 266 brush to apply Set to Dance over top on the upper lid.  I finished off this look by using MAC False Lashes Extreme Black Mascara

I hope you enjoyed the look!  Because I am so impressed with this one I'm going to go ahead and order Sultry.  I've been lemming it and now that I know this palette was not difficult to work with I can be confidant in the purchase ;)

Addiction NV Cosmetics NAUGHTY, BUT NICE Candy Cane Lip Balm Swatches and Review

It's time to get your lips prepped and ready for holiday festivities!  What better way to do this than with a candy cane flavored lip balm?!

Addiction NV Cosmetics has the perfect product to help you get into the spirit - Naughty, But Nice Candy Cane Lip Balm!
It looks like a candy cane (balm is formulated in a red and white swirled stripe), tastes like a candy cane (real candy cane flavoring and spearmint essential oils) – but this mouth watering, moisturizing treat winterizes and protects lips as it softens and hydrates them!   The clever click open tube contains a soothing lip balm jammed pack with aloe vera, shea butter, spearmint, apricot and sweet almond oils to hydrate as it calms and soothes.  And there is an added punch - “The swirled holiday red and white lip color hues blend to a flush of pink perfect for every skin tone and complexion," says West Coast Makeup Artist Noel Sweeny and founder of the indie brand. www.addictionnv.com

Naughty, But Nice Candy Cane Lip Balm is such a pleasing product.  The color is a nice pink flush on the lips and was extremely moisturizing.  The wear was a few hours, even through smooching and drinking.  As the product started to wear my lips did dry out a bit, but the color still provided a nice stain.  The cute packaging makes it easy to pop out and reapply.  I'm glad that with this lip balm you get some lasting color for your money, and it's not just clear!  And, of course, the candy cane scent is divine and puts me in that festive mood!

Addiction NV Cosmetics Naughty, But Nice Candy Cane Lip Balm retails for $18.

Duri ANGELS AND DEMONS, BLACK DIAMOND, DRAGONTINI, and FALLEN ANGEL Nail Polish Swatches and Review

Recently a new nail polish brand has been brought to my attention - Duri!  They aren't new to the world, since they're been around since 1990, but they're new to me ;)

One of their most recent collections is a group of polishes is inspired by the movie "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

From the Press Release:
Duri Cosmetics' deep hues inspired by Lisbeth's troubled nature puts nails in character with fiery hot shades and shivering cool Nordic winter whites to capture the complete picture.
  • Fallen Angel (Dark plum with a hint of red shimmer)
  • Black Diamond (Black with shimmer)
  • Dragontini (Dark purple)
  • Angels and Demons (Dark grey with silver glitter)
  • Icicle (Creamy white with crystal shimmer)
  • Frozen Fire  (Sheer pink with sparkling crushed ice)
Beauty Tip: Layer Icicle or Frozen Fire over the deep, dark hues listed above for even more Lisbeth Salander looks!
For this post, I have Angels and Demons, Black Diamond, Dragontini, and Fallen Angel to share with you.  I so with I had Frozen Fire to layer.  Doesn't it sound amazing?!

L-R: Dragontini, Fallen Angel, Black Diamond, Angels and Demons

Angels and Demons

Black Diamond

Dragontini

Fallen Angel

The formula on these polishes is amaze-balls!  I wore Fallen Angel for 5 days with very minimal tip wear (since this was a new-to-me brand I wanted to test the wear!).  My day-to-day is extremely rough on my nails, so when a polish lasts longer than a day I'm impressed, but this was FIVE!  Application was super easy and I only needed 2 coats for each!

The polishes paint on extremely glossy and keep the glossy look for about a day before you'd need to add a top coat.  If you plan on wearing them longer than a day, though, you'd need a top coat anyway.

As far as the price point goes, these polishes are extremely affordable at only $5 each!  WOOT!

All Duri nail products are completely safe (unlike Lisbeth), environmentally-friendly and free from DBP, TOLUENE and FORMALDEHYDE.
Duri Cosmetics can be purchased online at www.duri.com and specialty stores nationwide.
